And our final trial animation is from Mrs. Gerrish's third grade.

Owl Hunting
Second grade students are learning about birds. Here Mrs. Wentworth's students show how owls hunt their prey.
Gingerbread Man Meets a Rabbit
The Gingerbread Man meets a rabbit in this short animation by Mrs. VanOrden's kindergarten class. It's tricky to make sure we have the legs attached to the gingerbread man's body the whole time!
Sailing to America
The third graders are studying explorers. They wanted to make a ship sailing across the ocean to America. Next time they would like a storm!
Math Ducklings
Animations can be used to create good math problems, too. These ducklings are easy to manipulate and don't even get wet!
Frog Jumping!
The students wanted to make the frog also catch an insect with its tongue, but we ran out of time for that! It would make a good life cycle animation also.
Downy Woodpecker
The second graders are studying birds. We discussed why birds had different beaks and feet. The Downy Woodpecker has a beak that is good for getting insects beneath the bark of trees. Here one is pecking at a tree to get a tasty bug!
Butterfly Flutters By
Here a kindergarten class makes a butterfly flit across from one flower to another. We talked about the stages of a butterfly and what we could do to show that life cycle.

Sunrise, Sunset
Animating the sun rising and setting is done here by Ms. Gates' kindergarten class. Students thought it should look brighter when it was high in the sky, so they wanted the rays to be longer and off the sun more.
Pumpkin to Jack-o-Lantern!
Life cycles can be illustrated with animations... but perhaps not to the ending here!
Bird in Flight
This one is done by Mrs. Fullerton's first graders. The wings of the bird are detached so they are easily moved and positioned.

Fish Swimming
We're working on some animations in K-3 at Dike Newell School.
Here is an animation done by a second grade group. I took the pictures this time and they manipulated the scene and decided on the media edits. We discussed the importance of keeping the camera in the same spot each time and only moving the characters or parts that are supposed to be moving.
I'm hoping that some will be able to make their own shortly, depending on the amount of time it takes to take the pictures and put them together.

The last frame where the fish has left the picture is simply a copy of the first picture. We discussed why we didn't have to take another picture at the end. We could just make a copy of the first picture and put the copy at the end.
